Wanted to make you aware of an improvement I just made on the home search function on this site. When you are the BASIC or ADVANCED search tab putting in your criteria, there is now a listing counter at the bottom of those pages that changes as you input your search. The reason I added this is so you can narrow or expand your criteria based on the listing counter before you view your search results. It looks like this:

AARP The Magazine, just released their "Best Places to Live a Simple Life" and Greenville South Carolina came in at number 2. The editors were evaluating cities based on low cost of living and that offered a wide range of activities. Just another endorsement for this great place we call home.

Fluor Corp. has won a military contract that will add over 100 jobs to the over 2,500 current employees they have in Greenville, SC. The contract is for management of power, food service and transportation for bases in Afghanistan in addition to building 12 more bases there. The Greenville jobs will include project control, project management, finance, procurement, estimating, subcontracting and human resources but will not include any engineering positions. The estimated value of the contract over the next 5 years exceeds $7 Billion dollars.

The first six months of 2009 are in the books and the Greenville South Carolina real estate market is showing signs of improvement. Interest rates ticked up slightly in June and are currently hovering around 5.25% on 30 year fixed mortgages. A few months ago, our home sales were off about 40% compared to 2008 but that gap has been narrowed to 30%.

The following information concerning single family homes is provided by information obtained from the Greater Greenville Association of Realtors.

  • There are currently 5,955 active listings with 1,003 of these being new never lived in homes. Both these numbers are down slightly from the previous month.
  • Through June there have been 2,796 homes sold for an average price of $167,679. These homes sold
