I truly enjoy living in Greenville. And maybe it is just me, but the spring weather the past day or so really helps to put away any of winter doom and gloom that might have been there, and things just feel more positive. So I started to make a list and I would like you to help me finish it. Here are some reasons that I think making the choice to live here is great. I am going to put a few of them up and want you to add your comments as well.

Reason 1: Right now, the spring weather is a great reason to love living in Greenville. South Carolina's climate is mild (although this winter may not have been too kind), and now that temperatures are in  the 60's during the day, activity is picking up and the spring real estate market is underway. When people start to see news articles like this one in the Washington Post, they start to ask questions about the real estate market and where it will be in a few months as some of the changes that the Federal Reserve Chairperson is announcing start to take effect. While it is common for people to want to know what is coming next, here are a few things to keep in mind.

  • No one knows what exactly will happen. There are many factors in determining the market's course and it is impossible to accurately predict the precise moves that it will make. If it could be done the person who COULD do it would be wealthy indeed.

Haywood Mall will be making some updates this Spring to keep pace with the shopping competition from The Shops at Greenridge and Magnolia Park. The renovations  include extensive improvements to the exterior, new landscaping along Haywood Road and new signage at the entrances. Inside the mall plans call for new carpet, tile, seating and planters. They are also planning to have recharging stations built into the new furniture.

Haywood Mall is owned by the Simon Property Group and is the largest single shopping destination in the Greenville SC area with 1.3 million square feet. Even after 34 years it remains a popular shopping destination with 125 merchants. Anchor stores include Belk, Dillard's, Macy's, Sears and J.C. Penney.

2014 is going to be a busy year for new retail and dining openings in the Greenville area. In the Magnolia Park Development on Woodruff Road Cabela's will be opening a 100,000 square foot store April 3rd and will be the company's first South Carolina location. Dave and Busters will be opening later this year as well as Nordstrom Rack. Recently opened are Firebirds Restaurant, Golfsmith and Toys R Us.

Haywood Mall has also announced several new companies that will be opening locations there in the next few months. These

Don't forget to set your clocks forward one hour before going to bed Saturday night. Daylight savings time officially begins at 2 am Sunday morning. 

After the Winter most of the country has experienced, we all hope Spring is just around the corner.

With the first two months of 2014 in the books, we are almost exactly duplicating the sales and inventory numbers from 2013. There are a large number of home buyers currently in the market waiting for new listings to come on the market before making a buying decision. Interest rates have remained fairly steady and at attractive levels.

 Below is a recap of activity based on information from the Multiple Listing Service of Greenville SC for single family home sales for the month of February 2014.

  • There are currently 4,163 single family homes for sale in the Greenville MLS.
  • 722 of these homes are New Never Lived In/Under Construction/To Be Built Homes
