2016 is in the books and it was another good year for home sale in the Greenville SC market area. During 2016 there were 11,235 single family homes sold which represented a 7.5% increase over 2015. We finished the year with low inventory and with a higher number of new and to be built homes as a percentage of available homes for sale. Interest rates have started to creep up but still remain at attractive levels. The outlook nationwide is for a 1 to 3% increase in home sales for 2017.
There are currently 3,054 single family homes for sale in the Greenville MLS with 949 of those being new or to be built homes. This homes for sale inventory is down 8% compared to this time last year. During the month of December there were 817 homes sold for an average price of $219,052 which represented a 3% discount off list price. These homes sold in an average of 62 days on market.
