Many times when I meet with my clients, it will be the very first time they have ever been to Greenville South Carolina. They have spent some time on the Internet gathering information about our area and even spent time on my site looking at specific homes. With over 5,000 homes for sale in our area, how does one even begin to sharpen their focus so they can find the home they want in a good location for them?
Through my years of experience in working with relocation clients, I have found there are common threads that run through each situation. Below are 2 of the tips I give my clients for their first trip here.
Do not waste the first part of your trip here looking at specific homes. Get a feel for the "lay of the land" and determine where you want to focus your search. What will be your "center of gravity", such as 15 minute commute to work, a specific school zone area etc? Drive through our award winning downtown area and eat at one of our local restaurants. Talk a stroll through Falls Park and start experiencing Greenville. Most clients want to jump in my car as soon as the get to town and start seeing homes. This is almost always a waste of time because the right house in the wrong location is the wrong house. - Once you have determined the area, we will start filtering based on the home buying criteria that we will have discussed prior to your trip. These would include age of home, price range, square footage, lot size etc. This will produce a manageable list of homes to review to determine which ones you will want to see.
Prior to your trip here you will want to speak with a mortgage company to get preapproved for your mortgage. This is the first critical step in the home buying process and should be done well in advance of your trip here. With preparation and planning, your first trip to Greenville will be productive, interesting and fun.
