If your home is like mine, at one time or another you or your spouse have yelled out, please turn off the news. I am tired of hearing all the depressing stats and information about the economy. While we know that sticking our heads in the sand is not going to help, sometimes you just need a break from reality. With February now coming to a close and Spring coming soon, we all have expectations that "the bottom" is near and the gradual recovery is looming in the not too distant future.
The following is information provided by the Greater Greenville association of Realtors based on Greenville SC real estate activity through February 2009.
- 5,944 Active Listings with 1,209 of these being New/Never Lived In Homes
- Year to Date there have been 615 homes sold for an average price of $172,360. These homes sold for 95.4% of asking price and were on the market an average of 100 days
- 2009 home sales for January-February were down 37% compared to the same time period in 2008.
So the good news in Greenville is that we are still selling homes and the values here have continued to hold up and out perform the majority of the other markets in the United States. We believe we are positioned to be one of the first markets to bounce back to near normal sales levels once the recovery begins.
