January saw the Greenville SC area experience a snowstorm that brought 8" of snow to our area which is quite unusual. This pretty much shut down the city for 5 days and made us all thankful once again that we do not have to deal with snow issues very often. The current number of active listings is down from last month but will be picking up headed into the early Spring time period.
Below is a recap of activity based on information from the Multiple Listing Service of Greenville, South Carolina, Inc. for single family residential home sales for January 2011.
- There are currently 5,446 single family homes for sale. 751 of these homes are new or to be built homes.
- During the month of January there were 271 homes sold for an average sales price of $185,329. These homes sold for an average of 6.5% off asking price and in an average of 114 days on the market.
The first month of the year does not give us enough data to evaluate the 2011 market. Buyer activity has picked up substantially over the past 2 weeks and hopefully this trend will continue into the Spring. Interest rates remain below 5% and are still attractive.
