The summer home selling season is upon us and I wanted to give you a quick glance at the Greenville SC real estate activity through the first 5 months of 2010. Certainly home sales have been positively impacted by the first time home buyer program which will end with closings by the end of June.
Below is a recap of activity based on information from the Multiple Listing Service of Greenville, South Carolina, Inc. for single family residential home sales through May 31, 2010.
- There are currently 6,343 single family homes for sale with 891 of these being new homes.
- During the month of May there were 576 homes sold for an average price of $174,507. These homes sold for 95.5% of asking price.
- YTD for 2010 there have been 2,503 single family homes sold which is an increase of 9.5% over the same time period in 2009.
The real estate market in our area is still slower than we would like, but certainly continues to outperform the majority of markets across the United States. Interest rates continue to remain at historic lows so we are in a good buying environment.
